Visiting SSD Schools
Special School District (SSD) welcomes families and other community members into our schools for special events, meetings, and other occasions. However, we take keeping students and staff safe at school very seriously. To increase security at all of our school buildings, we use the Raptor Visitor Management System to track visitors. This system works with our existing exterior door buzzers and security cameras.
Anyone entering SSD buildings beyond the office must register by presenting a valid, government-issued ID to the school's office staff. Registration takes a few minutes the first time because an office staff member must complete the process. Subsequent visits will be quicker.
Please note that the information below applies only to SSD buildings and programs. Our partner districts and community partner sites may have different visitor procedures.
- Why does SSD need a visitor management system, like Raptor?
- What forms of ID will the system accept?
- What if I don't have a valid form of ID or don't want it scanned?
- What type of background check does Raptor run?
- Will my ID be scanned every time I visit?
- What information does Raptor scan and keep?
- How does Raptor keep my data secure?
- What if I have an outstanding warrant or am undocumented? Will you report me to the police or immigration?
- Are vendors and other regular school visitors who enter the building required to have an ID scanned?
- What happens if I am a registered sex offender but have a student at the school?
- Do other schools, school districts, and institutions use a system like this?
